Leggerezza (Italian for lightness) is a new project featuring Olga Mysłowska, Michał Pepol and Patryk Zakrocki. The artists present their musical interpretations of selected quotes from American Lessons – Italo Calvino's poetical and philosophical testament, indicating the search for lightness as a remedy for the weight of reality, where tenderness, subtlety, enchantment and awareness of “those minute, luminous tracings set in contrast to dark catastrophe” are juxtaposed against the burden of existence: a message that has become particularly relevant today.
Combining the sound of cello, voice and prepared guitar, as well as their diverse musical experiences, Zakrocki, Pepol and Mysłowska create lyrical, contemplative moments musicaux, derived from improvisation, each illustrating a different excerpt from Calvino's essays. Thus, the musicians seek balance between sound and breathing, between expressiveness and space.
